Education goes a long way. I've found that setting expectations and creating a sense of ownership helps more than any technical work-around, when it comes to eliminating interference in our Residence Halls.
Below is a presentation I give to Resnet (RA's and whomever else is willing to listen). We have "iClickers" which I hand out to all the attendees, to keep them interested in the presentation as it goes on. Most of the time these are non-technical people so requiring a bit of interaction keeps them awake.
I end the presentation with a demonstration showing a specturm analyzer and a Microwave. I show what happens to an IPerf streams TCP/IP throughput & to the 2.4GHz spectrum both before and during the MWO being used.
